Too many people have bought quartz patio heaters on the basis of their claim to have a high IP rating, when often they may have no IP certification at all!
IP + first number = 0 or X means no protection through to 4 protected against solid objects upto 1mm2, 5 protected against dust, limited ingress (no harmful deposit), 6 is totally protected against dust e.g. glass guard and no louvres in the bodywork.
IP + second number = 0 or X means no protection through to 4 is protected against water sprayed from all directions, 5 is protected from low pressure jets of water, 7 is protected from the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m, 8 is protected from long periods of immersion under pressure.
Commercial quality, weatherproof patio heaters do not need to be rated higher than IP54 at the most. If in doubt ask to see proof of the claims & consider whether you need to pay extra for what you don't really need. |
